Recipe for Crepes (Clatite) from Romania

 Clatite - Crepes




Ingredients: 350g wheat flour, 3 eggs, 500ml milk

Method

1. The batter:  Beat the eggs with a mixer until there is a froth on top. Add half the milk and a pinch of salt. Add the flour and add the rest of the milk, if necessary to make a liquid batter. Mix until the batter is fluid, no clumps in it. Let it rest for 15-20 minutes (preferably in the fridge.

2. The crepes: Heat the frying pan with little cooking oil. Pour a ladle of batter and spread it in the pan. Fry the crepe on both sides.

When finished, you can fill it with jam, chocolate (or other) mouse, or fresh cheese mixed with sugar, a little candied orange or lemon peel and raisins.

Serve hot or cold.

Argument

 

 The optional class curriculum ”I’m a Super Chef”, for Grade 6 – English – first foreign language, aims to develop in the students new competencies which will lead to language acquisitions specific for level A2+ at the end of gymnasium cycle.

This optional course has been created at the request of the students and to answer their needs for the 6th grade, and it is correlated with the training profile for the students graduating 8th grade.

Through the activities proposed in it (online research, watching thematic videos, discussions on the proposed themes, photo/video recordings, preparing certain food recipes, making virtual restaurants – website, promotions, advertising, posters, etc. – making e-books with menus, cook books, bilingual dictionary of terms used in the food processing in the kitchen, researching the ways of recycling foods and old kitchen utensils into artistic objects, writing articles for the class blog, establishing the Netiquette rules and the kitchen safety rules to be observed, etc.), this optional proposes to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for the 21st century youth. These knowledge, skills and attitudes can be found in the European Key Competences: Literacy, Multilingualism, Mathematical competence and competence in science, technology, engineering, Digital and technology-based competences, Interpersonal skills and the ability to adopt new competences, Active citizenship, Entrepreneurship, Cultural awareness and expression.

In designing the optional course I consulted, as reference, the following documents:

-   -Key Competences for Lifelong Learning - a European Reference Framework, Recommendation of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2006, in Official Journal of the EU, 30 dec. 2006;

-        -The Common European Framework for Languages (for the reference levels),(Cadrul European Comun de Referinţă pentru Limbi (nivelurile de referinţă).

- Finding  healthy food recipes to fit the menu they make for their restaurant.

-          Making a restaurant logo and advertisements (posters, leaflets, video clips, etc.), including the schedule, take out , etc., and the restaurant website; making the menu (lists with the cooked dishes, deserts, drinks, etc. and their prices.

-          Taking photo/video recordings of the recipes in the menu and to promote the restaurant.

-          Making a bilingual (English- Romanian) e-cookbook and publishing it using Story Jumper

-          The blog will be the class diary for their journey in the world of  healthy food and lifestyle.

-          They will write feedback articles about their experiences during the optional course: what they liked/disliked, obstacles they met and overcame, about safety on the internet and in the kitchen, etc.

-          They will use web 2.0 tools to publish their materials.

-          Research and discuss about the most important instructions for safety in the kitchen while cooking. Decide which 10 rules work for your safety in the kitchen. Post them on your class blog.

-          Watch the Eatwell guide and discuss which are the healthy foods and habits. Post your opinions on the blog.

-          Research about recycling foods and kitchen tools and write your opinions on the blog. Take photos of the old kitchen tools that you have recycled and explain how you did it in articles on the blog.

-          Research for food recipes which you want to have in the menu of your virtual restaurant.

-          Cook some of the recipes from your menu. Take photos of them and post them on the website and blog.  Video record them and give the ingredients and instructions in English. Post them in the cookbook and on the website and blog.

-          Organize a food art exhibition with your products and take photos/video record and present it on the blog. Give your creation and title and explain what food items you used and in what quantities.

-          Make a cookbook containing the recipes from your menus. Use Story jumper to publish it.

-          Make a mini dictionary with the cooking terms and tools. Use Story jumper to publish it.

-          Make posters and video clips to promote your virtual restaurant. Post them on the blog.

-          Gather information from various sources to make your virtual restaurant.

-          Make your restaurant website and present it on the blog.

-          Make the logos for the restaurants and optional course and post them on the websites and blog. You can make a contest for the optional course logo. The logo with the most votes will win the competition.

-          Make canva/ PPT or other types of presentations to present your restaurants and menus/ cookbooks, dictionary.

-          Make photo/video recordings of your recipes and use them on your websites and blog.

-          Make and fill in questionnaires and quizzes using Kahoot, google forms, etc.

-          Give feedback to the articles of your colleagues on the blog.

-          Role play “At the Restaurant” – make the play script, play the roles of customer and waiter and video/photo record it and post the recordings on the blog and websites.

-          Read the menu of the restaurant and decide what the best choice is for you. Express your likes and dislikes.

-          Try to contact famous Romanian or international chefs and ask their opinion on your restaurant website and menus or food recipes. Write about it on the blog.
